Hi, we’re Roadtrip Nation, and we send people on road trips in our green RV to talk to their heroes, potential mentors, and anyone who’s doing generally awesome stuff. We film it all and then turn it into a show to inspire people to go after their interests.
This October, fueled by the National Science Foundation, we’re sending three young adults interested in computer science on a road trip across the country to meet inspiring professionals working with cutting-edge technology who are pushing past barriers—and pushing the world forward in the process.
Jobs in computer science are growing, but women, African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, and Alaska Natives are underrepresented within the field. This trip is about highlighting exciting careers connected to computer science and innovation—and showing people from minority and underrepresented groups that they belong. If you identify with a group that’s underrepresented in computer science and you’re interested in exploring what’s out there, we want you to come along!
Essential Details
- The application is open to young people aged 18 and over interested in computer science. Whether you’re studying this subject, or you’ve just got a kernel of interest that you’d like to explore more, we’re looking for you!
- If this trip conflicts with school, work, or another obligation, don’t let that stop you from applying! We’ll do our best to work with your schedule and previous commitments.
- Applicants must be available to commit to 4 weeks of travel in October 2019. If chosen, you’ll travel in a Roadtrip Nation RV to meet trailblazing leaders and explore different pathways in computer science.
- This is for a TV show, so you’ll be filmed and the footage may be shared on public television and other video platforms.
- Individuals who are chosen will help plan the trip, researching and booking interviews alongside Roadtrip Nation.
- All travel expenses, plus a daily stipend for food, are paid for by Roadtrip Nation.
